Claude Code Cost Calculator

Estimate a real monthly number from your usage shape — then see the hours-per-day where a subscription beats pay-as-you-go. Rates come from our public pricing endpoint, live.

Subscription break-even: At these settings, usage-based spending reaches the $100/mo Max plan at about 14 focused hours per day. Below that, pay-as-you-go is cheaper; above it, the flat plan wins. (Plans also come with usage caps; usage-based does not.)

Subscription prices are public facts: Pro $20/mo, Max $100 and $200/mo tiers.

Live rates are unavailable right now; the embedded snapshot from our last release is used instead.

What this model assumes (all adjustable in your head)

  • A turn re-sends the conversation so far — that is why message 15 costs more than message 1. The averages above already include re-sent context.
  • 70% of prompt tokens are assumed to hit the prompt cache and are charged at 10% of the input rate; the rest pay full price.
  • Turn rates and sizes per intensity: light 24 turns/hr @ ~8K context, balanced 12/hr @ ~20K, heavy 8/hr @ ~45K; outputs 0.7K/1.4K/2.6K.
  • Gateway rates are the live standard-group prices for each tier's model, read from /api/pricing at page load.
  • It is an estimate, not a quote: your real sessions, caching behavior, and model mix will differ. The workspace shows exact per-request costs after the fact.

This calculator is built and operated by Teapot Router, an API gateway — the usage-based rates shown are ours. The subscription facts and the arithmetic are meant to stand on their own either way.
